Outcomes Objectives and Assessments

The Technology Integration Planning Model

Research shows that the distracting activities that students engage in were negatively related to student learning. (Fried, 2006; Nworie & Haughton, 2008) Before this technology was selected, higher student performance was stated as a primary concern. Therefore, this benchmark should be first and foremost in any measured outcomes. A primary objective for the Capstone project will be that a change in student behavior will result in higher academic performance (e.g. higher test scores). Specifically this change will be represented by the student’s mastery of the course objectives.  By the midterm of the class, students should have mastered the objectives outlined in the course requirements. The primary course goals are aligned with the first two student learning objectives.

Objective one and two were related to course objectives. In the third objective teachers assessed student behavior by observing their ability to remain on task as well as their ease of opening computer applications and class websites. In order to get an accurate assessment of the software from teachers, I gave a questionnaire to three other teachers who are also using the software for the first time. The final objective was to measure the relative advantage. Relative advantage as outlined in Phase 1 is the ability for teachers to see the benefit of the new technology. Student opinion was not measured for this new technology since it is designed to combat their ability to engage in other activities during class time. For this reason, the expectation was that students will have negative feelings about the new technology since it prevents them from their more preferred activities. Below is a list of objectives, outcomes and the assessment measurement tool that were used.

Outcome Objective Statement Assessment Measurement
Comprehension of Computer Applications Students will be able to identify appropriate business documents and demonstrate their ability to create the documents using the computer. Mid-term Test
Cooperative Work Outcome Students will be able to design a brochure advertising a fictitious company using a software application and propose a plan for its dissemination. Group Project Rubric
Improved on-task behavior The teachers will observe students staying on task and encounter fewer problems launching applications for the class. Systematic Observation Checklist
Teacher Satisfaction The teachers will demonstrate that they are satisfied with the technology by scoring an 80% satisfaction rate on a Likert scale survey. Likert Scale Survey
